Test Valley Need 4 Speed
Latest (good) news....
Although sign-ups are not yet open, it has been confirmed that no money will be required when you sign up - payment will only be required once the network is built and you are able to receive a service, at which point you will need to pay the £300 community contribution, activation fee (£20) and install fee (approx £40). However, none of us are going to get a network unless we meet the sign-up targets of 1000 people across the virtual town and 25% per village by the end of July.
When you sign up you will be asked to confirm your understanding of the payments that you will be charged when you receive the service. Although it is NOT legally binding it does demonstrate your intention to take up the service, but this time knowing the costs.
It is also worth noting that the cost of £300 per household is about as cheap as you're ever going to get for a FTTH service. Broadband Delivery UK (the government agency responsible for broadband rollout in the UK) acknowledges that fibre rollout to rural homes can cost as much as £10k per property. So, paying £300 per home represents only 3% of this cost.
